Description of Xenon Low Voltage Puck Lights

  • Many Uses: perfect for cabinet lighting, small display cases, exhibits, office and medical work stations, shelf lighting, showcase lighting, under cabinet lighting, merchandising, and bars

    FIXTURES
  • Low Profile: if the xenon puck light is surface mounted, it has a total depth of 1-7/16 inches with a round face that measures 2-9/16 inches in diameter. If the xenon puck light is recessed mounted, it needs a circular hole that is about 5/8in deep and 2-1/8 inches in diameter. When it is recessed only about 1/2 inch of trim will show.
  • Versatile Mounting: the xenon low voltage puck light can be either surface mounted or recessed mounted
  • Cool Housing: heat-resistant plastic frame is designed for thorough airflow ventilation with a frosted glass lens
  • 3 Finishes: white, black, chrome
  • Even Light Distribution: frosted glass diffuser for even light distribution (Because xenon lamps are much cooler than halogen lamps the lens does NOT have to be made of tempered glass.)
  • Cooler Than Halogen: xenon light bulbs give off much less heat than comparable halogen light bulbs
  • Intended to Shine Down: has been designed to be used so that the light is directed downward. If the Puck Light is installed so that it is facing upward, too much heat may be trapped inside the fixture.

    LAMP
  • Xenon Lamp Is Included: 20-watt, 12-volt, xenon bipin lamp with a G4 base is supplied with each fixture
  • Good Amount of Light: 225 lumens/lamp (approximately equal to that of a 25W standard incandescent light bulb)
  • CRI: CRI is 100 for all xenon light bulbs (100 is considered to be the best)
  • Color Temperature: color temperature of 3000K (warm appearance, very slightly cooler in appearance than a standard clear incandescent light bulb)
  • Good Lamp Life: rated life is 10,000 hours on average (In contrast, a 20-watt, bipin halogen lamp is generally rated at about 2,500 hours.)
  • Easy Lamp Handling: unlike a halogen light bulb the glass envelope of a xenon light bulb may be touched with bare hands (while the lamp is cool) without causing the lamp to fail prematurely
  • Replacement Lamps Available: spare Xenon Replacement Lamps may be purchased in the Accessories tab

    ELECTRICAL FEATURES
  • Long Electrical Leads: each xenon puck light has a pair of 48in electrical lead wires which, of course, may be shortened “in the field” if necessary. If more wire is needed, please note that the plug-in transformers have leads that are 22in long. For best results we recommend that you not try to put a puck light any further than 6 feet from the electronic transformer.
  • Quiet Electronic Transformers: xenon low voltage puck lights need a 12-volt transformer to operate properly. Depending on the situation one of the following transformers may be selected
    1) a 60-watt plug-in electronic transformer (1.25inH x 1.75inW x 4inL)
    2) a 60-watt hard-wire electronic transformer (7/8inH x 1-3/8inW x 2-5/8inL)
  • Plug-In Transformer: has one pair of leads that are 22 inches long which are connected (hard-wired with a terminal block) to the xenon puck lights, an 8ft cord with a 2-prong polarized plug and an on/off in-line roller switch located about 12in from the polarized plug. Since this transformer is simply plugged into the nearest electrical outlet it provides ease of installation.
  • Hard-Wire Transformer: has four leads, two of which are connected (hard-wired with wire nuts) to power and two of which are connected (hard wired with wire nuts) to the xenon puck lights. This transformer must be secured in a junction box along with its electrical connections. This transformer allows the xenon puck lights to be controlled by a wall switch or dimmer.
  • UL Listed: UL and C-UL listed

    INSTALLATION
  • Easy to Install: please refer to these Installation Instructions (PDF). Always check local electrical codes and the National Electrical Code (NEC) before installing any lighting products. It is also wise to consult with a licensed electrician in your geographical area about any electrical details that you might have questions about and to make certain that you are satisfying all of the appropriate electrical codes.
  • Caution: these xenon puck lights are not intended to be installed with the light pointing upward; they are not intended to be installed in ceilings or soffits; they are not intended for lighting aquariums; and they are not intended to be installed in plastic cabinets.

    SELECTION QUESTIONS
  • 4 Selection Questions: when selecting the Xenon Puck Light Kit that is right for your situation it is important to answer these 4 questions

    Q) How many puck lights do I need?
    A) 1, 2, or 3  (See the Measurement Guide for assistance.)

    Q) What finish do I want on the puck lights?
    A) White, Black, or Chrome

    Q) Do I want to control the puck lights with a wall light switch or dimmer?
    A) If the answer is "yes", then please select a hard-wire transformer, not a plug-in transformer. However, if the answer is "no", then select a plug-in transformer.

    Q) Do I want to place the transformer more than 10 feet from the puck lights?
    A) If the answer is "yes", then please select a DC (direct current) transformer, not an AC (alternating current) transformer. However, if the answer is "no", then select an AC transformer.

Measurement Guide for Xenon Low Voltage Puck Lights

When determining how many Xenon Low Voltage Puck Lights you will need for under cabinet lighting you first will have to measure the space where the fixtures will be attached. To do this you should NOT measure the face of the cabinets; you should measure the "cavity" under the cabinet where the fixtures will actually be placed. We recommend that you then refer to the following table when determining how many Puck Lights you will need. From the range given below select the number of fixtures that seems right for your situation.

FAQ for Xenon Low Voltage Puck Lights

XENON BIPIN LAMPS

Q) What makes this a xenon light fixture?
A) Xenon gas has been introduced into the glass envelope of the lamp.
Q) Why is xenon gas added into the glass envelope of the lamp?
A) The addition of this gas into the glass envelope increases the rated life of the lamp.
Q) What is the rated life of these xenon lamps?
A) About 10,000 hours.
Q) What does “rated life” mean?
A) The “rated life” of a lamp signifies the time at which 50% of a large quantity of these lamps will have burned out. That means that 50% of these lamps will burn out BEFORE the “rated life” and 50% will burn out AFTER the “rated life”. The “rated life” does NOT mean that every one of the lamps will last at least that long.
Q) Is this definition of “rated life” true for all lamps?
A) Yes, this is the standard rating for the life of ALL lamps.

Customer Comments about our Xenon Low Voltage Puck Lights

""This site gives the best description of these products (Xenon Puck Lights)."

"I had purchased 5 Progress undercabinet lights, and the cost for the lights only, was the same as my order of six lights (Xenon Puck Lights) and transformers I just purchased (from Pegasus). The transformers were going to add almost two hundred dollars more. Thank You."

"I ordered three transformers off your web site last week. They were delivered the very next day.  First of all, I love the site. You provide more information about your products than any other web site I've seen. I was particularly impressed with the information on the low-voltage lighting products. As an example, your site is the only site that mentions anything about using low voltage puck lights in only a downlighting application because otherwise they melt from the heat. Also, the FAQ on low voltage transformers is phenomenal. Your site is the only one that I could tell what product I was actually ordering."

"Got the order on Monday and just now had a chance to install a couple of them. The Xenon Puck Lights work and look great! Thanks for a good product and a very usable website."

"I am very pleased with the xenon puck light kit I bought from Pegasus. I needed to light up a display case, and couldn't find anything suitable in the home stores other than halogen, which was too hot for a closed cabinet, especially since I store my Franklin Mint and Danbury Mint diecast cars in there, and would be afraid too much heat would cause damage. I've enclosed a picture to show how I used them. For aesthetic reasons, I cut an extra shelf in half lengthwise, and used it as a light valance by recessing the pucks into it, then mounting it under the cabinet top. I'm telling all my collector friends about your xenon lights and great service. Thanks again!" (Please click here to see the photo sent in by this customer.)
